My goal as a designer and artist is to clearly communicate an idea through visual storytelling. I enjoy the challenge of creating sets and props that people can lose themselves in. That’s what drew me to set and prop design for film and stage. As an art director I have designed and built sets and props for a TV show pilot, music videos, and music stages.

As a kid growing up in Texas I dreamed of being a professional artist. I was obsessed with drawing, painting, and sculpting. Luckily, I had amazing art teachers who recognized my talent and encouraged me to apply to Booker T. Washington Magnet Arts high school in Dallas, Texas. It was an amazing opportunity that directly helped me to get accepted to Pratt Art Institute in Brooklyn, NY. I majored in industrial design where I studied design process, drawing, drafting, 3-D visual language, and model making techniques. In 2001 I graduated with honors and began working as a product industrial designer in New York for major retail chains such as Macy’s, Bloomingdale's, Saks Fifth Ave, Bed Bath & Beyond, Stein Mart, and Home Depot. I designed many different tabletop, homewares, fashion accessories, and garden accessory products.

After nine years living in New York I was ready for a change of pace and decided to move to Portland, OR. I was drawn to the natural beauty of Oregon’s forests, mountains, and coastline. I continued working a freelance designer and around the same time rediscovered my passion for creating artwork. I began drawing, sculpting, and experimenting with different materials and techniques I learned in college. I had an opportunity to be the art director for the pilot episode of a children’s music and puppet show, and I was immediately drawn to the challenge of designing a space that not only had to be functional to film in, but also had to be visually convincing as a world of its own. All the different skills I learned through my education and professional experiences came in handy when designing and fabricating the different props and set elements.

Since, that project I have continued to challenge myself by taking on a large variety of projects ranging from music videos, stage design, album covers, illustration, graphic design, and commissioned artwork. Completing such a wide range of work has taught me a lot and helped sharpen my skills as a visual storyteller. Thank you for visiting my site and checking out my work. I wish you well and hope you have a story or two to tell.
